I have always been fascinated with birds, especially the hawk. I had two birds throughout my childhood. Hawks are just majestic birds, with great intelligence, and with goal oriented objectives. Hawks have been said to be the most intelligent out of the bird specie. They are great hunters and almost always get what they want. Not only are they incredibly intelligent, but hawks have amazing eye site. They have four types of color receptors in the eye, giving them capability to see the ultraviolet part of the color spectrum.
A hawk is an opportunistic hunter, meaning they will hunt and eat anything that is available at the time. Prey may include frogs, insects, squirrels, rats, snakes, rabbits, and even smaller birds. A hawk can catch prey either in mid-air or ground, at about 150 miles per hour flying speed.
Like most wild animals, some species of hawks are endangered due to chemical pollution, which causes destruction to the hawk egg.

Wow, I had no clue that the hawk had such amazing eyesight, or that they were so incredibly fast. I'm not the biggest fan of birds in general, but this definitely impressive!
ReplyDeleteI love hawks as well. I just find it amazing how they are one if not the fastest animal on earth. I love how resilient they are and just the idea of the freedom and view they have from flying so high above. It is just said how such a wonderful animal is being threatened by our actions.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool how they can see the ultraviolet light spectrum. I know that Mantis shrimp can see into the UV spectrum as well as the IR spectrum. Its like some animals are born with super powers.
ReplyDeleteI've always been a fan of Hawks. From the way they casually soar through the sky, to the way they aggressively catch their prey. On top of that, they are just beautiful looking birds. I had no idea about their four types of color receptors though, that's crazy!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing hawks fly because they are so different from any other bird in the way they soar through the air. I had no idea they had such great eyesight! Also, it's really impressive that they can catch their prey mid-air.
